Start with the right assessment and test
Home sleep apnea testing, an overnight laboratory study and a sleep-specialist consultation are different services. Ask the referring professional which pathway fits the question being investigated and which receiving clinic accepts that referral.
Do not assume a retail clinic enquiry means a test can proceed without a referral. Snore MD’s Vancouver/Kitsilano page says a doctor’s referral is required for sleep testing and treatment, although its staff can help coordinate one. Current appointment dates must be confirmed directly.

What to ask about costs and coverage
Ask separately about the assessment, test, interpretation, follow-up and any optional equipment. A CPAP equipment price is not the cost of a diagnostic study. Get the expected charges and any insurer preauthorization requirements in writing before purchasing.
Public referral eligibility and an equipment benefit are different questions. Do not assume a clinic’s ability to submit an insurance invoice means your plan covers it. We have not verified a standard Vancouver private fee or a universal wait for either public or private services.
Follow up on a referral without starting over

Can I book a Vancouver sleep test without a referral?
Check the exact receiving service. HealthLink BC lists a clinician referral for the VCH program; Snore MD’s Vancouver page also requires a doctor’s referral for testing and treatment. An initial enquiry or walk-in is not the same as being eligible for a test.
How long is the wait for a Vancouver sleep study?
Ask the receiving clinic for your referral’s current stage and the appointment it can offer. We have not verified a current wait and do not use an old months-versus-weeks comparison as a booking promise.
