Gentle Cleanser Comparison in Canada: CeraVe, Cetaphil, Vanicream & Aveeno

Compare five Canadian cleanser listings by texture, ingredients, pack size and practical trade-offs. No invented prices, universal winner or hands-on testing claims.

Published November 2, 2026. Canadian listings and linked sources checked on that date. This is a specifications-based comparison, not hands-on testing or personalized medical advice.

Start with the texture you want and the formula you already tolerate. CeraVe’s Hydrating and Foaming cleansers are different products; a Vanicream two-pack is not a single-bottle bargain by default. This guide compares five everyday cleansers without declaring one universally best.

Five cleansers, five practical comparisons

OptionPublished formula or textureMain decision
CeraVe Hydrating CleanserLotion-like, non-foaming; manufacturer positions it for normal-to-dry skin.Compare a creamy wash with a foaming texture. The linked bottle is 473 mL.
CeraVe Foaming Facial CleanserFoaming gel; manufacturer positions it for normal-to-oily skin and lists niacinamide.Choose this comparison if foam and oil removal are your priorities, not because “stronger” means better. Linked bottle: 473 mL.
Cetaphil Gentle Skin CleanserNon-foaming; Canadian manufacturer lists glycerin, niacinamide and panthenol.Compare the current label with the formula you used previously. Linked bottle: 473 mL.
Vanicream Gentle Facial CleanserManufacturer describes a soap-free facial wash with a creamy, pearlescent appearance. The selected listing is a two-pack of 8 fl oz bottles. Check total quantity and whether you want two bottles.
Aveeno Calm + Restore Oat CleanserCanadian manufacturer describes a gel cleanser containing oat and feverfew.Compare those ingredients against known sensitivities. Linked bottle: 232 mL, smaller than the 473 mL options.

These differences come from published descriptions, not a head-to-head clinical trial. A “sensitive skin,” “hypoallergenic” or fragrance-free label does not guarantee that you will tolerate a formula.

A shorter way to narrow your choice

  • You prefer a creamy, non-foaming wash: compare CeraVe Hydrating with Cetaphil Gentle, then check their current ingredients.
  • You prefer a foaming gel: compare CeraVe Foaming’s texture and ingredient list rather than confusing it with the Hydrating bottle.
  • You want another ingredient profile: Vanicream and Aveeno provide alternatives, but “different” is not proof of safer or more effective.
  • Your current cleanser works: keeping it is a valid option. A comparison page is not a reason to replace something you tolerate.

Do not buy a new cleanser as a substitute for prescribed treatment. If you are managing a diagnosed condition or recovering from a skin procedure, check the proposed change with your treating professional.

Compare value without relying on a stale price

Use the actual total for the exact seller and pack at checkout. For bottles measured in mL, calculate total price ÷ total mL × 100 to compare cost per 100 mL. For multi-packs, add the volumes first. This is a comparison method, not a claim that the largest bottle is always the best purchase.

Check shipping charges, subscription selection, return rules and the product’s identity before paying. Do not compare one 232 mL bottle with a two-pack using only the headline price. We do not publish changing marketplace prices or assume that a different size uses an identical formulation.

Sources and comparison method

We checked Canadian manufacturer descriptions where available and the exact Amazon.ca variants. Vanicream’s manufacturer source is US-based; check the imported package and Canadian listing rather than assuming every market’s formula is identical. No customer ratings, paid ranking or hands-on results were used.
