Private CT Scans in BC: What You Need to Know
CT (computed tomography) scans use X-ray technology to create detailed cross-sectional images of the body. They are used to diagnose a wide range of conditions, from internal injuries to cancer staging to vascular disease.
In BC's public system, non-urgent CT scans typically have wait times of 4–16 weeks. For patients who need faster answers — or whose GP has not yet ordered a CT — private CT scans offer an alternative with appointments available within 1–5 business days.

How to Get a Private CT Scan in BC
1
Get a referral
Most private CT clinics require a physician's referral. Ask your GP to write a referral for a private CT scan, or use a telemedicine service to get a referral quickly.
2
Choose a clinic and book
Contact private imaging clinics in your area to compare prices and availability. Most can book you within 1–5 business days.
3
Attend your appointment
CT scans typically take 15–45 minutes. If contrast dye is used, you'll need to arrive 30 minutes early. Wear comfortable clothing without metal.
4
Receive your results
A radiologist will interpret your scan and send a report to your referring physician within 24–72 hours. You can also request a copy of the images.
5
Follow up with your physician
Review the results with your GP or specialist to determine next steps. If the scan reveals a significant finding, your physician can expedite further care.
