BC Medical Access is committed to providing accurate, reliable, and up-to-date information about BC's healthcare system. This page explains our editorial standards and how we ensure the quality of our content.

Accuracy First

All factual claims are verified against authoritative sources including BC Ministry of Health, Health Authority data, and peer-reviewed research.

Regular Updates

Content is reviewed and updated at least quarterly. Pricing data, wait times, and clinic information are updated as new data becomes available.

Editorial Independence

Our editorial content is independent of commercial relationships. Paid listings do not influence the accuracy or tone of our informational content.

Editorial Review

All healthcare content is reviewed by the BCMedicalAccess.ca editorial team against primary sources from BC Ministry of Health, HealthLink BC, and BC Health Authorities before publication.

BC Medical Access exists to help British Columbians navigate a complex healthcare system. Our mission is to provide clear, accurate, and actionable information that helps patients understand their options, access care faster, and make informed decisions about their health.

Content Standards

All content published on BCMedicalAccess.ca must meet the following standards:

  • Accuracy: Factual claims are supported by credible sources. We cite BC Ministry of Health data, Health Authority reports, and peer-reviewed research where applicable.
  • Transparency: We clearly distinguish between factual information and editorial opinion. We disclose commercial relationships that may be relevant to our content.
  • Balance: We present multiple perspectives on complex healthcare topics and avoid promoting specific providers in editorial content.
  • Accessibility: We write in plain language that is accessible to patients without medical training.
  • Currency: We include publication and update dates on all content and review time-sensitive information regularly.

  • BC Health Authorities (Fraser Health, Vancouver Coastal Health, Interior Health, Island Health, Northern Health)
  • Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) wait time data
  • BC College of Physicians and Surgeons for provider verification

Commercial Relationships

BC Medical Access generates revenue through provider listings. We are transparent about how this affects our content:

  • Paid listings (Featured and Exclusive tiers) receive enhanced placement in search results and directory listings
  • Commercial relationships do not influence the accuracy, tone, or content of our informational articles, guides, or blog posts
  • We do not accept payment for positive editorial coverage
  • Sponsored content, if any, is clearly labeled as such

Our Review Process

Every article and guide published on BCMedicalAccess.ca follows a structured editorial process:

  1. Research: Content is researched using primary sources — BC Ministry of Health, HealthLink BC, BC Health Authorities, and CIHI — before any draft is written.
  2. Drafting: Articles are written in plain language accessible to patients without medical training, with all factual claims tied to a cited source.
  3. Editorial review: Each piece is reviewed by the BCMedicalAccess.ca editorial team for factual accuracy, source quality, compliance with our medical disclaimer policy, and adherence to our content standards.
  4. Publication: Articles are published with a visible publication date and a "Last Updated" date that is updated whenever material changes are made.
  5. Ongoing review: Time-sensitive content (wait times, pricing, clinic availability) is reviewed at least quarterly. Articles are flagged for review when source data changes.
